Nissan decides to launch Electric car in India

Nissan-electric-car-indiaThe Japanese carmaker Nissan has decided to launch its new highway-capable electric car in India. Kiminobu Tokuyama, MD and CEO of Nissan Motor India told that they were studying the possibility of introducing Leaf in the Indian Market.

Nissan is one of the leading manufacturers in the electric vehicle segment around the world. They sold over 21,000 cars in the last year, mostly in Japan and US. In India, Mahindra Reva Electric vehicle is currently selling and we have expected to launch the second version of Reva as Reva NXR in this year.

But kiminobu Tokuyama refused to give a timeline for introducing the car into the Indian market. He told that it depends on the government approval, after getting approval electric car will introduce in India and we need more government support.

Presently, majority of the car from Nissan is selling Micra and Sunny models. The Company reports that Micra recorded sales up to 1855 units, sunny recorded 3128 units. 85 percent of total manufacture is exported.

Tokuyama said that Nissan will increase the sales percent from 51 to 100 by 2013 and we are looking 1, 00,000 car for sales by 2013-2014. They also plans to launch a compact car priced less than 4 lakh.
